Overview

• The Centre has cleared the procurement of 54,166 tonnes of moong and 50,750 tonnes of groundnut under the Price Support Scheme for the 2025-26 season.
• This procurement will be made at the revised Minimum Support Prices of ₹8,768 per quintal for summer moong and ₹7,263 per quintal for groundnut.
• Madhya Pradesh’s government has not sent a procurement proposal for moong, citing contamination concerns from herbicide use.
• Farmers in Madhya Pradesh are being forced to sell moong at distress prices of ₹5,000 to ₹6,200 per quintal, incurring losses of up to ₹2,000 per quintal.
• Farmers’ unions have initiated protests and are preparing to take the matter to court to compel state procurement under the MSP scheme.
