Government Advances Daanish University Plan With Virtual School Entry Test Set for October

A centralised push aims to create a merit-based technology university that prepares talented pre-university students through free online courses.

Overview

  • Officials, who briefed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in mid-September, reported 185 faculty applications and said the campus building is expected to be completed next year.
  • A nationwide talent-hunt for second-year F.Sc. and A-Level students has been launched, with an entrance test scheduled for October 24, 2026 in more than 40 cities.
  • Successful Virtual School candidates will receive five months of free preparatory classes to ready them for higher education.
  • The university will initially offer programs in bioengineering, electrical engineering, artificial intelligence, computer science, and technology and social sciences with admissions pledged to be strictly merit based.
  • Officials have fixed a bridge programme from August 10 to September 14, 2027 and set regular academic sessions to begin on September 20, 2027, making faculty selection, construction progress and the October test the key near-term milestones to watch.
