Overview
- The tunnel breakthrough under Gotthardstraße on Wednesday created a continuous, walkable 1.1‑kilometre section and three logistics openings that let builders bring in concrete, steel and other materials.
- Those openings enable immediate underground work to fit out the Baumschule Laim station and to complete the tunnel link to Laimer Platz, while crews continue tunnel‑floor and wall works and upcoming concrete pours for half‑side ceilings.
- Construction at Pasing and Am Knie is ongoing with bore‑pile and diaphragm‑wall work, and the Rohbau for the Freiham end station has been under way since May 2024 to limit later disruption.
- The project faced roughly a 12‑month delay early on due to groundwater issues and protective Düker installations but city officials now report the programme is about four months ahead and target the Laim–Baumschule section for service around 2031 with a full extension into the early 2030s.
- With the underground phase reaching this milestone the Gotthardstraße surface will be reinstated and redesigned to add space for cyclists, tram service will be maintained and some traffic restrictions such as one‑lane flows on Josef‑Felder‑Straße remain in place.
