Gottesman Pool Opens Friday as Free Central Park Swim Hub

Lifeguard training continues through mid-July to support the city’s expanded free outdoor pool network

The city is opening its new Gottesman Pool, the centerpiece of the $160 million Davis Center near the Harlem Meer. City officials welcomed swimmers Thursday, one day before outdoor pools open across the boroughs.

Overview

  • The 285-foot pool can accommodate over 1,000 swimmers in an open-air design
  • Visitors can swim free daily from 11 am to 7 pm, pausing 3 pm–4 pm for cleaning, through September 7
  • The Davis Center addition includes updated locker rooms, shaded seating and a free summer meals station for children
  • NYC Parks has expanded its free aquatics programming to ten outdoor pools and reintroduced adult lap swim and senior splash sessions this summer
  • After Labor Day, the pool basin will convert into a turf field and later into an ice rink for year-round use
