- Marines and Toys for Tots volunteers distributed more than 8,600 toys at Shed 5 in Detroit’s Eastern Market on Dec. 3.
- A total of 750 families attended after being preselected by the Marine Corps Reserve program, and the event was not open to the public.
- Children ages 4 to 7 received a bicycle and helmet, while those 3 and younger got Talking Elmos and VTech Smart Shots Sports Centers.
- Supporters included Tom and Holly Gores, retailer Meijer, and numerous U.S. Marine Corps volunteers.
- This marks the 19th year of the Gores family’s effort, with 147,500 toys delivered to more than 75,000 children to date, and a second event is scheduled in Flint on Dec. 17 alongside a $25,000 donation to The Salvation Army Downriver Corps.
