GOP Whip Calls for Ethics Investigation into Rep. Ilhan Omar's Remarks

Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-MN) has called for an ethics investigation into Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) over a recent speech she made in Somali, which he claims shows her prioritizing Somalia's interests over those of the United States.
Emmer's call for an investigation is based on a translation of Omar's speech shared by Somaliland Ambassador Rhoda Elmi, which Omar and others have disputed as inaccurate.
In the disputed translation, Omar is quoted as saying she is here to protect the interests of Somalia from within the U.S. system, and that the U.S. government will only do what Somalis in the U.S. tell them to do.
Omar has defended her comments, stating that they align with longstanding U.S. policy favoring a unified Somalia, and has accused Emmer's call for an investigation as being rooted in xenophobia and Islamophobia.
The House Ethics Committee has not yet commented on Emmer's request for an investigation.
