Overview
- Republican governors from Mississippi, Louisiana and Tennessee joined earlier moves by West Virginia, South Carolina and Ohio, with announcements totaling more than 1,100 Guard troops for Washington.
- About 900 additional Guard members from West Virginia, Ohio, Mississippi and South Carolina are expected to arrive in the coming days, according to state announcements.
- Attorney General Pam Bondi reported 465 arrests and 68 seized weapons since the operation began, including 52 arrests and nine firearms confiscated on Monday night.
- Federal agencies including the FBI, DEA and ICE have increased their presence on city streets, and after a legal challenge the city’s police chief, Pamela Smith, remains in operational command under an agreement with the mayor.
- Separately, Guard units in roughly 20 states are being used to support ICE with administrative and transport tasks under Title 32 status, exemplified by Nevada’s activation of about 35 personnel for non-policing roles.
