Google's Project IDX Introduces Built-In iOS and Android Simulators
The web-based app development suite also adds new project templates and enhances Nix and Docker support.
- Google's Project IDX, a web-based app development suite, now includes built-in iOS and Android simulators, allowing developers to preview their applications in a mobile view without leaving their workspace.
- The update also includes new project templates for Astro, Go, Python/Flask, Qwik, Lit, Preact, Solid.js, and Node.js, expanding the range of compatible tools for developers.
- Project IDX uses Nix, a cross-platform package manager, to configure templates and previews. Developers can now customize these Nix-based templates and the IDE is getting syntax highlighting, error detection, and code completion support for Nix files.
- Google has also made it easier for developers to work with Docker containers by enabling Docker right in their Nix configuration file.
- Despite the updates, Project IDX remains an experimental project for Google, and developers still need to request an invite to get started.
