Google’s Pixel Watch 3 Rolls Out FDA-Cleared Loss of Pulse Detection in U.S.

The AI-powered feature, already available in Europe, begins a phased U.S. rollout, offering life-saving emergency response capabilities for cardiac events.

Google’s Pixel Watch 3 introduces Loss of Pulse Detection in the U.S., a feature that can automatically contact emergency services during critical health events such as cardiac arrest or respiratory failure.
The feature, which received FDA clearance in February 2025, has been available in Europe for several months and is now being rolled out to U.S. users in phases over the next few weeks.
Users must opt in via the Pixel Watch App to activate the feature, which uses infrared LEDs and motion sensors to accurately detect a loss of pulse and minimize false alarms.
If a loss of pulse is detected, the watch initiates a countdown and alarm before contacting emergency services with the user’s location if no response is detected.
Developed in collaboration with cardiologists, the AI algorithm behind the feature was rigorously tested using hundreds of thousands of hours of real-world data to ensure reliability.
