- Google and the Transportation Security Administration announced the partnership on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, and a phased rollout to Google Wallet users has begun.
- Users create a local digital ID pass in Google Wallet, save their boarding pass, tap a “Get started” button that redirects to the TSA consent page, and receive a Touchless ID badge on the pass after TSA confirms enrollment.
- The Touchless ID system uses the TSA’s facial-comparison checks so travelers can pass through PreCheck lanes without presenting physical ID or a paper boarding pass at equipped checkpoints.
- The feature works at about 65 U.S. airports with more than 100 TSA PreCheck-participating airlines at those locations, but TSA handles the biometric verification outside the Wallet app and full availability will expand in stages.
- Google says passport data and digital ID passes are encrypted and stored locally on the device and that information is shared with TSA only after explicit user consent and device authentication, while adoption will hinge on airport equipment, airline implementation, and ongoing privacy oversight.
