Google Wallet for Android Replaces Card Carousel With Vertically Stacked List

The redesign is meant to improve one-handed access and card visibility as Google rolls the change out through staged server-side experiments.

Overview

  • The new layout shows one full card with a sliver of the next above it and lets users tap or swipe down to expand a card into fullscreen.
  • Tap-to-pay and the ability to select a card remain unchanged and 'Manage payment methods' still lets users reorder cards and set a default.
  • A new settings gear in the top-right corner gives access to card details and transaction history, which adds an extra tap compared with the prior carousel interface.
  • The change is appearing on more Android devices and in international user reports but is arriving via a phased server-side rollout rather than a broad, formal announcement.
  • The stacked list follows Wallet updates earlier this year to the homepage and fullscreen passes and mirrors the vertical approach used by Apple Wallet while showing more of each card’s artwork.
