Overview
- TSA and Google announced the partnership on Wednesday to let eligible TSA PreCheck members opt in to Touchless ID through Google Wallet by tapping a “Get started” prompt on a saved boarding pass.
- To enroll users add a digital passport to Google Wallet, save their boarding pass, tap the opt-in button that redirects to TSA’s consent flow, authorize the share, and receive a Touchless ID indicator on the pass.
- Qualification requires active TSA PreCheck status, a valid passport, and an active profile with a participating airline, and the verification itself is performed by TSA systems outside of the Wallet app.
- Both agencies say data is protected by local device encryption and user authentication before sharing, and the TSA says captured photos are not used for law enforcement and are deleted within 24 hours of the flight.
- The rollout begins over the coming weeks but remains limited to about 65 U.S. airports and participating airlines, a change that should remove repeated per‑airline passport uploads and speed checkpoint flow as summer travel rises.
