Google Unveils Googlebook Line of Android Laptops With Gemini and Phone Integration

Google is betting phone-to-laptop continuity powered by built-in Gemini tools will pull Android users into a new premium laptop class.

Overview

  • Preorders for five Googlebook models from Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP and Lenovo are open and U.S. retail shipments are scheduled to begin on October 4, with prices starting around $899 and rising to about $1,299.
  • Googlebook OS is built on Android with desktop Chrome foundations and includes Quick Access, Continue On and Cast My Apps to let a supported Android phone share files, apps and settings via an encrypted setup transfer.
  • Gemini is embedded into the workflow through Magic Pointer for on-screen assistance, Rambler for speech-to-text and formatting, and Create My Widget for low-code widget creation.
  • Launch hardware uses Intel, Qualcomm and MediaTek chips with NPUs rated at 45+ TOPS, touchscreen OLED or IPS displays and at least 16GB of RAM, but independent testing is still needed to verify real-world battery life, sustained performance and app scaling.
  • Every Googlebook comes with 12 months of Google AI Pro plus trials for GeForce NOW and creative apps, Best Buy is offering Pixel Buds with preorders, and Google promises up to 10 years of Googlebook OS updates though many key features depend on supported phones, languages and online access.
