Overview

  • Live Translate now supports back-and-forth audio with on-screen transcripts in more than 70 languages, launching in the U.S., India and Mexico on Android and iOS.
  • Google says the app identifies pauses, accents and intonations and uses speech models trained to isolate noise for clearer conversations in busy environments.
  • A new practice mode creates tailored listening and speaking exercises that adapt to a learner’s skill level and goals and tracks daily progress.
  • The practice beta is free during testing and initially supports English speakers learning Spanish or French, plus Spanish, French and Portuguese speakers learning English.
  • Both additions are powered by Gemini models and are framed by coverage as a direct challenge to dedicated language-learning apps like Duolingo.
