- Google will begin removing Google Assistant from eligible Android phones and tablets on September 4, 2026, and the company says the phased rollout may take several weeks to reach all devices.
- When a phone switches to Gemini it will also replace Assistant on paired accessories such as Wear OS watches, compatible headphones and earbuds, and Android Auto projected from the device.
- Once the change reaches a device users will not be able to switch back to Google Assistant, which means saved routines, automations and some integrations could be altered or lost without an option to revert.
- Some platforms are exempt from the September mobile timeline, including vehicles with Google built‑in, Google TV devices and Google Home speakers and smart displays, and legacy or low‑spec phones may keep Assistant longer where Gemini is unsupported.
