Overview

  • Google will preserve all goo.gl URLs with recent traffic, overriding its earlier plan to deactivate every link after August 25, 2025.
  • Links showing no activity in the past month—accounting for over 99% of goo.gl URLs—are scheduled for deactivation later this month.
  • Users accessing dormant links have encountered warning interstitials since August 2024 indicating impending shutdown.
  • The company has not defined how long actively used shortened links will remain functional under the new policy.
  • The goo.gl shortener entered official deprecation in 2018 and stopped creating new links in March 2019 as Google prepared to retire the service.
