Overview

  • On July 8 Google will automatically push Android 16 to all Pixel 6a devices, with safety features activating only on handsets flagged as “Impacted Devices.”
  • Devices labeled as impacted are those surpassing 400 full charge cycles and will see reduced battery capacity and slower charging to curb overheating risks.
  • Owners can check eligibility and monitor their device’s charging-cycle count via a dedicated support tool on Google’s website.
  • Affected users may claim free battery replacements, repair services, cash compensation or store credit through Google’s Battery Performance Programme.
  • This effort builds on battery performance programmes for Pixel 4a and Pixel 7a and includes temporary recalibration of the battery-level indicator to reflect the adjusted capacity.
