Google to Delete Inactive Gmail Accounts Starting December 1
Cybersecurity Measure Targets Dormant Personal Accounts, Excludes Business and School Accounts
- Google will start deleting inactive personal Gmail accounts from December 1, 2023, as a cybersecurity initiative.
- Accounts that have not been used for at least two years will be considered inactive and will be deleted, including associated Google Workspace apps like Drive, Docs, and Photos.
- Google has been sending notifications to dormant accounts and their recovery emails. The first accounts to be deleted are those that were created and never used again.
- Activity on an account, such as signing in, reading or sending emails, using Google Drive, watching a YouTube video, downloading apps on the Google Play Store, or using Google to sign in on a third-party service, will prevent deletion.
- Business and school accounts will not be affected by this policy. Accounts with active subscriptions or YouTube videos will also not be deleted.
