Overview
- Google has rolled out a limited Discover Shop pilot inside Google Pay in India that puts fashion and lifestyle product discovery into the payments app.
- The feature combines visual search, an AI virtual try-on called “Try on You,” and YouTube content to let users find items from photos, preview how select clothes might look, and view related videos.
- Recommendations are personalized using users’ Web & App Activity and Search Personalisation settings, and users must sign in with a personal Google Account with those settings enabled to access the pilot.
- Product listings and detail pages draw on Google’s Shopping Graph of more than 60 billion items and link to merchant websites for checkout rather than handling transactions inside Google Pay.
- Google says it will add features such as pre-generated daily outfit suggestions, but the company has not given a timeline for wider availability and the pilot raises adoption and privacy questions for users and merchants.
