Google Targets Next Year for Android-Based PCs With Qualcomm

The project re-bases ChromeOS on Android to deliver native Gemini-powered experiences across laptop and desktop form factors.

Overview

  • On stage at Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Summit, Google’s Rick Osterloh said the company is building a common foundation for PCs by merging ChromeOS with Android’s underlying technology.
  • Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon said he has seen the software and called it “incredible,” describing it as delivering the convergence of mobile and PC.
  • Sameer Samat signaled timing by saying Google is “super excited” about the combined platform for next year, without providing specific launch or shipping dates.
  • Google plans to bring Gemini, Assistant, the full Android AI stack, and the existing Android app and developer ecosystem natively to PCs rather than using a virtual machine approach.
  • The collaboration points to ARM-based Snapdragon PCs as likely targets, though Google has not named chips, hardware partners, product specs, or detailed compatibility and enterprise features.
