Google Starts September Pixel Drop, Bringing Material 3 Expressive to Pixel 6 and Pixel Tablet

Google says the update will reach users in the coming weeks through a staged release.

  • Material 3 Expressive is rolling out to Pixel 6 and newer phones plus the Pixel Tablet, adding lock-screen Live effects, customizable calling cards, and a redesigned Quick Settings.
  • Pixel Buds Pro 2 will receive Adaptive Audio, Loud Noise Protection, nod/shake call controls, and clearer Gemini interactions in noisy environments later this month.
  • When walking or biking navigation begins on a phone, Google Maps now automatically appears on Pixel Watch and other Wear OS devices for hands-free guidance.
  • Gboard introduces on-device AI writing tools that adjust tone and correct spelling and grammar without sending data to the cloud.
  • Android expands LE Audio sharing so two headphones can pair to one phone and private broadcasts can be joined via QR codes.
