Google Starts Rolling Out Gemini on Google TV Streamer, Replacing Assistant

Availability will arrive in waves over the next few weeks for eligible devices.

Overview

  • Users can invoke the new assistant with the remote’s microphone and manage it in Settings > Accounts & Profiles > your account > Voice assistant > Gemini for TV.
  • The update enables more natural voice queries for recommendations, show catch‑ups, learning prompts, DIY guidance with YouTube, and basic smart‑home controls, with access limited to users 18 and older.
  • The rollout extends Gemini for TV beyond the initial September debut on select TCL sets, with support also live on Walmart’s onn 4K Pro and additional Hisense and TCL 2025 models planned into 2026.
  • A Google TV Streamer needs a TV with an HDMI port and HDCP 1.3 or later, and availability may not appear immediately as devices receive the update over the coming weeks.
  • Separately, Gemini for Home remains a slow, U.S.-only early access upgrade at the Home level via the Google Home app, as Google updates FAQs and investigates reports of query misunderstandings and smart‑home control issues.
