Google Shelves 'Project Iris' Smart Glasses to Focus on Software Platform

Google discontinued its augmented reality smart glasses known as Project Iris.
The tech giant faced issues like staff layoffs, leadership changes, and shifting strategies that hindered Project Iris's development.
Instead of building its own AR hardware, Google will develop software and license it to other companies that can build the physical devices.
Google is working with Samsung and Qualcomm on an extended reality wearable and "micro XR" glasses platform.
A Google VP said the company will share more details on these collaborations later this year.
