Google Sets September 23 Rollout for Steam-Style Play Games Profiles

Profiles will surface stats and social features in the Play Store with privacy controls carried over from existing settings.

Overview

  • The update will auto-roll out on September 23 in most regions and on October 1 in the EU and UK, according to Google’s emails and support pages.
  • New profiles display games played, playtime, milestones and achievements, with users able to make profiles public or limit visibility.
  • Profiles and related features will be integrated directly into the Google Play Store and apply to Play Games on Android and Windows.
  • Google will collect game-usage data and may receive developer-reported in-game activity, and developers may receive profile and activity information subject to their own policies.
  • Users can perform a one-time import of past activity and delete their Play Games profile, while an APK teardown and beta activation show a follower system and customization options ahead of launch.
