Google Sets July Cutoff for Chrome on macOS Monterey

Users on Apple’s macOS 12 will lose Chrome security updates unless they upgrade to macOS 13 or choose another browsing option.

Overview

  • Chrome 150 will be the final version to support macOS 12, with Chrome 151 requiring macOS 13 Ventura or later and tentatively scheduled for July 28, 2026.
  • Google says older Chrome builds will keep running on Monterey but will no longer receive new features or security patches after the cutoff.
  • Google advises Monterey users to move to Ventura or newer to stay protected, noting that those unable to upgrade may need different browsers or new hardware.
  • Many older Macs cannot install Ventura, including iMacs from before 2017, MacBook Air models before 2018, and MacBook Pro models from before 2017.
  • The move follows Apple ending support for Monterey in mid-2024, and aligns with Chrome’s roughly four‑week release cadence projecting the change for mid‑summer 2026.
