Google Rolls Out September Android Feature Drop With Gemini, Motion Assist and Messages Upgrades

The update pushes Gemini into core Android tools to help find items and provide camera-based audio guidance while adding motion-sickness relief and in-chat shared lists.

Overview

  • The September Android Feature Drop began rolling out Tuesday and delivers features across Android devices through app updates rather than limiting them to Pixel phones.
  • Find Hub gains a new Remembered tab that lets Gemini store item locations and optional photos so users can ask the assistant where they put things without needing a hardware tracker; this feature targets phones running Android 16 or later.
  • Motion Assist, coming to Android 17 and up, overlays a small moving bubble that tracks vehicle motion to reduce nausea and can auto-activate when the phone detects you are on a car, bus, or train with user controls for color, shape, and opacity.
  • Google Messages is getting private Chat Themes for per-user look and feel and a Google Keep integration that lets chat participants create and edit collaborative lists inline, with the Messages–Keep rollout starting today via app updates.
  • Gemini Live’s Guided Vision will provide spoken guidance from a shared camera feed to read fine print and help locate objects, and it will arrive soon on phones running Android 9 and newer in countries where Gemini is supported; availability will be staggered by OS version and region.
