Google Rolls Out Search, Maps, Waze and YouTube Tools for the 2026 Winter Olympics

Google positions its services as a one-stop companion for following the Games in real time.

Overview

  • Search now surfaces live schedules, results, medal counts, where-to-watch information, top stories and video highlights and recaps from official broadcasters.
  • AI Mode in Search can explain rules and scoring in context while you watch, such as what curling brooms do or how figure skating is judged.
  • Maps and Waze provide road-closure and transit updates sourced from local authorities, while Gemini in Maps enables hands-free queries for navigation, nearby places, route changes and checking scores.
  • YouTube expands coverage through NBCUniversal’s Milan Cortina Creator Collective and the IOC’s Creator Program, alongside daily official highlights from broadcasters including Eurosport and the Japan Consortium.
  • Google reports surging interest in hockey searches globally, with hockey overtaking figure skating in the U.S. and “hockey players” hitting a 10-year high, as the Games run Feb. 6–22 across Milan, Cortina d’Ampezzo and other northern Italian venues.
