Overview
- The Phone by Google app is enabling call recording broadly on Pixel models starting with Pixel 6 running Android 14 or later.
- Some users only see the feature after installing both the app update (around version 198 or newer, up to 200 beta) and the November system update.
- Recordings are stored locally on the device, with options to auto-delete after 7, 14, or 30 days or retain them indefinitely.
- Users can start recordings from the in-call Call Assist button with a countdown, audible notice to participants, visual indicators, and easy stop controls.
- Non-Pixel phones using the Phone app can record on Android 9 or newer, while AI-powered Call Notes remains separate and is expanding to Australia, Canada, India, Ireland, and Japan.
