Google Rolls Out Nano Banana Image Editing to Lens and AI Mode in Search

Availability begins in English in the U.S. and India.

Overview

  • Google confirmed it is starting to roll out Nano Banana in Search via Google Lens and AI Mode, enabling instant photo transformations with its latest image model.
  • In AI Mode, a new plus icon opens Gallery, Camera, and a banana‑tagged Create Images option that changes the prompt to “Describe your image” and can generate images from scratch.
  • In Google Lens, a Create tab with a banana emoji on the shutter defaults to the front camera for selfies, offers a lens switcher, and drops captures into AI Mode for follow‑up edits.
  • Outputs can be downloaded and shared and include a Gemini spark watermark in the bottom‑right corner for provenance.
  • Google says the model has edited more than 500 million images since launch, and it is also available through the Gemini API, Google AI Studio, Vertex AI, and a Perplexity WhatsApp bot.
