Overview
- Google published a coordinated Home ecosystem update on October 29, 2026 that bundles a major Google Home app release, Gemini for Home fixes, and firmware for Chromecast streamers, Nest Wifi/Pro, speakers, and migrated Nest cameras, and the rollout is staged so some devices will get builds later than others.
- Gemini for Home received targeted reliability fixes that stop unprompted “Sorry, I didn’t understand” replies, improve requests to move music between rooms, correct timer versus sleep timer behavior, and resolve cases where alarms and timers were set to zero.
- Chromecast with Google TV (4K and HD) firmware includes an Android Security Patch Level upgrade to August 2026 and general connectivity, media streaming, and display performance improvements while Nest Wifi and Nest Wifi Pro firmware add automatic failover to ISP DNS, optimized mesh RSSI and client steering, and node setup stability.
- Nest and Google speakers get audio and connection fixes such as smoother streaming, speaker-pair volume tuning, faster local discovery, a Bluetooth resume fix, and Wi‑Fi 7 (WPA3) compatibility corrections while the Home app adds Matter improvements that show correct door/window icons and energy data for supported devices.
- Because most Home/Nest devices update automatically over the air, users may not be able to force installs; the staged rollout and delayed posting of some firmware builds mean user reports and device-level availability may lag the published changelog.
