Google Rolls Out Emergency Live Video on Android in U.S., Germany and Mexico

Dispatchers can request an encrypted live camera feed during 911 calls that users approve with a single tap.

Overview

  • The feature is now rolling out across the U.S. and select regions of Germany and Mexico on Android 8+ devices with Google Play services.
  • During an emergency call or text, dispatchers can request a live feed that the caller approves with a tap; users cannot start streams on their own.
  • Video sharing is encrypted by default, is optional, and can be stopped instantly by the caller.
  • The viewer opens as a picture-in-picture window with controls for turning on the flashlight and switching between front and rear cameras.
  • Initial U.S. integrations include RapidSOS, Motorola Solutions, and Prepared911, and participating agencies can view and record streams as availability expands through partnerships.
