Google Removes Nearly 11,000 State-Linked Propaganda Channels From YouTube in Q2

Overview

  • Second-quarter takedowns approached 11,000 channels, down from over 23,000 in Q1 and bringing the year-to-date total to roughly 34,000 removals.
  • More than 7,700 channels tied to China were removed after promoting People’s Republic of China narratives, praising President Xi Jinping and commenting on U.S. foreign affairs.
  • Over 2,000 Russian-linked channels were dismantled for pushing pro-Kremlin content in multiple languages and criticizing Ukraine, NATO and Western nations.
  • Google also dismantled coordinated influence networks attributed to Azerbaijan, Iran, Turkey, Israel, Romania and Ghana that targeted political rivals and regional conflicts.
  • These actions form part of the Threat Analysis Group’s routine quarterly disclosures to counter coordinated state-backed disinformation campaigns.
