Google, PJM, and Tapestry Launch AI Initiative to Modernize U.S. Electric Grid

Google, PJM Interconnection, and Tapestry have announced a multi-year initiative to use AI for automating and optimizing the interconnection process for power projects.
The initiative aims to reduce lengthy wait times for connecting new energy sources, addressing a backlog of 2,600 GW of potential capacity across U.S. grids.
Tapestry’s AI tools will unify PJM’s grid data into a single platform, enhancing planners’ ability to make faster and more efficient decisions.
The collaboration represents the first comprehensive use of AI to manage interconnection queues, improving grid reliability for 67 million people in the Mid-Atlantic and Midwest.
This effort is part of Alphabet’s broader push to innovate energy infrastructure, including exploration of advanced geothermal and nuclear technologies.
