Overview

  • 9to5Google reports the redesigned viewer is widely rolling out on Android with Google Photos version 7.42 after debuting on iOS last month.
  • Date, time, and location now sit at the top of Photo view, and the only corner controls are a favorite star and a three-dot overflow menu.
  • The bottom sheet drops the carousel to focus on library and image details, and the viewer menu lists tools such as Create, Order photo, Cast, Download or Delete from device, Print, and Help & feedback, with Google Lens placement reported as presumably changed.
  • A light background option is available, and new pill-style badges provide quick actions for category changes, Live or Motion playback, saving shared photos, and backup or storage management.
  • Photo stacks and bursts gain a thumbnail three-dot control for changing the top pick, unstacking, removing items, or multi-selecting, while the bottom row now shows Share, Edit, Add to, and Trash.
