Google Pay Adds Gemini-Powered Ask Google Pay and Flex SBI Card in India

Google positions the launches to deliver personalised spending guidance with payment data stored in India.

Overview

  • Ask Google Pay, which launched on July 29, uses Google’s Gemini models to analyze a user’s Google Pay transactions and credit-report data and return charts, category breakdowns and plain-language spending tips.
  • The feature is opt-in, supports text and voice in 10 Indian languages, and requires users to enable Personalisation within the app before the assistant can access their data.
  • Google says Ask Google Pay keeps conversations and payment data inside the Google Pay ecosystem, stores payment data in India, excludes full card and account numbers and retains chat history for 42 days by default.
  • Google warns the assistant cannot initiate payments or give personalised investment advice, may produce errors, and will not be used to train Google’s general AI models.
  • Separately, Google launched the Google Pay Flex SBI Card built on RuPay with Visa acceptance, in‑app application, instant reward Stars, EMI conversion for bills and limited-time benefits such as discounted Google AI Plus storage and Pixel offers, with the rollouts limited to some users and no public timetable for wider availability.
