Google Opens Engineering Center at São Paulo’s IPT Campus

Overview

• The center, which opened on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, occupies a renovated historic building on the Instituto de Pesquisas Tecnológicas (IPT) campus and has capacity for about 400 engineers.
• Google says the site will house teams focused on artificial intelligence, user security and privacy and will include an Accessibility Discovery Centre for testing assistive technologies.
• The facility also includes a Google Safety Engineering Center, described by the company as the fourth global GSEC and the first located outside Europe.
• The project is governed by a 10-year agreement with the São Paulo state government that required reconfiguring IPT space and moving some libraries and archives, with certain renovation works still to be delivered and staff scheduled to begin occupying the site around July 2026.
• Google has not disclosed the investment amount, the new center will work alongside its Belo Horizonte engineering hub, and reports differ on when the Belo Horizonte office opened, with sources citing both 2006 and 2016.
