Overview
- Select users in the Google Messages beta are seeing the feature in version 20251103_00_RC00.
- Typing “@” surfaces a list of conversation participants to tap and tag, working much like WhatsApp or Telegram.
- Tagged participants receive a notification even if they have muted the group conversation.
- The tag displays the name from the device’s Google Contacts entry, and users can edit that display (such as removing a last name) before sending.
- The capability is limited to RCS chats, and Google has not announced a broader rollout or timeline.
