New AI features, including the long-awaited Immersive View for Routes, set to roll out in 15 cities and enhanced search functions based on AI-driven analysis of user photos, aim to make Google Maps more useful and interactive.

Google Maps is rolling out the Immersive View for Routes in 15 cities starting this week. This allows users to have a detailed, 3D preview of their planned journey, with simulated weather and traffic conditions.
The update includes improved search functions powered by AI, which analyses billions of images shared by users to provide visual, photo-first results in response to user queries.
Google Maps' Lens feature, formerly known as 'Search with Live View', is expanding to over 50 new cities. This AR-powered function provides users with information about nearby landmarks and services using their phone's camera.
Navigation enhancements, including improved lane details and more realistic building representations, will be introduced in the coming months across 12 countries. HOV lanes will be visible to users in the U.S., and AI-powered speed limit information will be expanded to 20 countries in Europe.
Additional updates for electrical vehicle drivers include detailed charging station information available on Android and iOS. These features provide information on charger compatibility, speed, and the last time a charger was used, to help drivers avoid non-operational chargers.
