Google Maps Power Saving Mode Rolls Out to Pixel 10 Phones

The feature uses Android’s AOD Min Mode to show monochrome driving directions on the Always-On Display for longer battery life.

Overview

  • Google is widely rolling out the Maps Power Saving mode to the Pixel 10, 10 Pro, 10 Pro XL, and 10 Pro Fold via a server-side update enabled by default.
  • During driving navigation, pressing the power button switches to a simplified black-and-white view that runs on the Always-On Display using AOD Min Mode.
  • The pared-back UI keeps the system status bar and next-turn banner, removes Assistant/Gemini and other on-screen controls, supports swipe-down for notifications, and exits automatically at your destination.
  • Google reports up to four additional hours of navigation on Pixel 10 devices in this mode, with actual savings varying by settings and conditions.
  • Availability is limited to the Pixel 10 series with support only for driving navigation in portrait orientation, and users can toggle the feature in Maps settings under Navigation > Driving options.
