Google Maps Adds Agentic Ordering and Booking to Ask Maps

The update links conversational shopping to partner payment and booking flows, using optional Gmail and Calendar data to tailor results for users.

Overview

  • Google announced on Thursday that Ask Maps can now perform tasks such as ordering food, comparing hotels, and finding event tickets through conversational queries.
  • Agentic ordering is rolling out first in the U.S. and lets Ask Maps add items to a cart and hand users off to partners such as Square, Toast, and Uber Eats to complete payment.
  • Personal Intelligence will personalize Ask Maps answers by drawing on a user’s Gmail and Google Calendar but is disabled by default and must be turned on by the user.
  • Ask Maps now preserves prior conversation threads for ongoing planning and adds a live transit widget that surfaces real-time delays and conditions in markets where it is available.
  • The changes mark a shift in Maps from navigation toward task completion and commerce, raising questions about data use and the role of partner-managed payments in search-driven transactions.
