Google Links Android Quick Share With Apple AirDrop, Rolling Out First to Pixel 10

The initial rollout targets Pixel 10 devices, with Google emphasizing a secure, direct, peer-to-peer design.

Overview

  • Two-way transfers now work between Pixel 10 phones and iPhone, iPad, and Mac, with Apple devices appearing in Quick Share when AirDrop is set to “Everyone for 10 minutes.”
  • AirDrop’s “Contacts Only” mode is not supported at launch, and Google says it would welcome working with Apple to enable that option in the future.
  • Google says the connection is peer-to-peer and never routed through servers, built using the memory-safe Rust language and validated by independent testing from NetSPI.
  • The company confirms it implemented the feature without Apple’s involvement, and Apple had not issued public comment at the time of publication.
  • Availability is limited to the Pixel 10 family for now, with plans to expand to more Android devices later, a move observers link to Apple’s recent Wi‑Fi Aware support under EU interoperability rules.
