Google Links Android Quick Share to Apple AirDrop, Starting on Pixel 10

Initial availability is limited to Google’s latest phones, with transfers requiring AirDrop’s temporary Everyone setting.

Overview

  • The update enables two-way, peer-to-peer sharing of photos, videos, and files between Pixel 10 devices and iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
  • To appear as a target, the Apple device must set AirDrop to “Everyone for 10 Minutes,” and the Pixel must be discoverable, with user approval required for each transfer.
  • Google says the connection is direct and does not route data through servers or log shared content.
  • The bridge was engineered by Google without Apple’s partnership, uses a Rust-based interoperability layer, and was validated by third‑party testers at NetSPI.
  • Support is rolling out on the Pixel 10 lineup first with plans to expand to more Android devices, and Google is seeking collaboration to enable a Contacts Only mode; Apple has not commented.
