Google Lets Users Turn Off Visible AI Watermarks in Gemini and Flow
Google says invisible SynthID signals and C2PA metadata will remain embedded in every generated file to preserve verifiable provenance.
Overview
- Google has rolled out a new “Media watermark” toggle that lets users hide the visible corner spark on images, video, and audio created with Gemini and Flow.
- The company announced the change on Friday and said every file will still carry invisible SynthID markers and C2PA provenance metadata so tools can verify origin.
- The toggle is already live in Flow and is rolling out across the Gemini mobile and web apps with Google Search support promised to follow, and some countries that require visible labels will be excluded.
- Google is open-sourcing Credentio, a validation library developers can use to check provenance locally, and it replaced Gemini 3.6 Flash with Gemini 3.7 Flash while cutting introductory API pricing.
- The shift gives creators cleaner, unbranded outputs for presentations and creative work but raises pressure on platforms and browsers to ingest invisible signals for automated detection and labeling.
