Overview
- Universal Cart, which launched on Oct. 15, 2026, is live in the United States on Google Search and the Gemini app and lets users save products from multiple retailers into one persistent cart.
- The cart uses Google’s Shopping Graph to watch saved items for price drops and restocks and sends notifications when deals or availability changes occur.
- Google Wallet integration lets the cart surface promo codes and recommend which saved payment method offers the best perks, and users can pay with Google Pay or transfer items to a merchant’s cart to complete checkout.
- Developer docs and Google’s UCP (Universal Commerce Protocol) hub show the initial Cart API supports only a one‑way CreateCart transfer to merchant systems, with no two‑way syncing, updating, or deleting of cart contents in this release.
- Merchant onboarding, analytics and some integration features are rolling out gradually, YouTube and Gmail connections and international expansion have no firm timeline, and the move increases competition with Amazon, OpenAI, and Meta while shifting more pre‑purchase activity into Google’s ecosystem.
