Google Launches Gemini for Home, Puts Advanced Features Behind Paid Tier

Advanced capabilities now sit behind a $10-a-month Google Home Premium plan.

Overview

  • Google is replacing the legacy Assistant on speakers, displays, cameras and doorbells with Gemini for Home, with an early-access rollout starting in October in the United States and broad support for recent generations of devices.
  • The subscription offers two tiers in the U.S.: $10 per month for the standard plan and $20 for the advanced plan, with Gemini Live, Ask Home, Home Brief, AI-powered notifications, and 30–60 days of video history and optional 24/7 recording; Google AI Pro includes the standard tier and AI Ultra includes the advanced tier.
  • New Nest cameras tied to Gemini are on sale in the U.S. now with 2K HDR video, wider fields of view and improved low-light performance, priced at $99 for Nest Cam Indoor, $149 for Nest Cam Outdoor and $179 for Nest Doorbell.
  • A redesigned Google Home speaker, built for Gemini interactions and featuring a new light ring and touch controls, is priced at $99 and slated to go on sale in 2026.
  • Google rebuilt the Google Home app with tighter Nest integration and claims up to 70% faster load times and 80% fewer crashes, while Gemini adds more natural conversations with context retention and ten more lifelike voices plus proactive automations.
