Google Launches FireSat Satellite to Revolutionize Wildfire Detection

FireSat, a satellite system developed by Google Research, Muon Space, and other partners, launched its first satellite via SpaceX's Transporter-13 mission from California.
The system uses AI to analyze high-resolution satellite imagery updated every 20 minutes, identifying wildfires significantly earlier than existing methods.
FireSat can detect fires as small as a classroom, offering a major improvement over current systems that often only identify fires once they span several acres.
The project is part of the Earth Fire Alliance and received $13 million in funding from Google.org's AI Collaborative: Wildfires initiative.
The data collected by FireSat will not only aid emergency response but also contribute to wildfire behavior research and efforts to mitigate climate change.
