Google Launches AI Shopping That Calls Stores and Buys Items With Your OK

In the U.S., early access is limited to certain categories and partners with purchases confirmed by the user via Google Pay.

Overview

  • Google began rolling out conversational shopping in Search’s AI Mode and in the Gemini app, returning shoppable images, comparison tables, prices, reviews and inventory details.
  • An option labeled “Let Google Call” can phone nearby retailers to check stock, pricing and promotions in categories like toys, health and beauty, and electronics, then send a summary by text or email.
  • Google says the caller identifies itself as AI, limits call frequency, and allows merchants to opt out, with the system built on Duplex and upgraded with Gemini for store selection and summarization.
  • Agentic checkout—surfaced as a “Buy for me” option after price tracking—fills fields on the merchant’s site and completes payment via Google Pay only after the user confirms purchase and shipping details.
  • Initial U.S. partners for agentic checkout include Wayfair, Chewy, Quince and select Shopify sellers, with AI Mode shopping supported by Google’s Shopping Graph of 50+ billion listings that update frequently; sponsored listings appear in AI Mode but not yet in Gemini.
