Overview

  • Roger Kaye KC filed the claim on May 28 at the Competition Appeal Tribunal on behalf of an estimated 500,000 to 1.5 million UK advertisers.
  • Those advertisers allege Google’s agreements with phone manufacturers and network operators to default to Google Search restricted competition and drove up advertising prices.
  • The lawsuit seeks up to £25 billion in damages for search ad purchases made from January 2011 through the present.
  • It builds on European Commission and US court findings that Google has abused its dominance in online search advertising.
  • Google is also facing a US federal monopoly ruling, proposals to divest its Chrome browser and a $1.38 billion privacy settlement in Texas.
