Overview
- Gemini Spark can now open, read and directly edit Google Docs, Sheets and Slides, insert images into documents and presentations, read file comments, and use the Canvas panel to refine content.
- Google says the assistant’s core engine runs more than 50% faster and uses smarter sourcing to fetch and review multiple references in parallel so complex tasks finish sooner.
- Notification behavior was changed to show clearer prompts when user input is needed and to suppress mobile alerts for a task if the user is already active in that task’s Gemini web thread.
- The rollout is limited to Google AI Ultra subscribers where Gemini Apps are supported and explicitly excludes the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, and Nigeria; Google has teased that AI Pro access will be announced soon.
- The update follows rapid feature drops and a June beta for local file automation on Apple silicon Macs and raises fresh questions about how agentic file access will affect user privacy, workspace controls and regional regulatory compliance.
