Google Expands AI Search Mode With PDF Support, Canvas Planner and Live Video Queries

Overview

  • On desktop browsers, users in the AI Mode Labs can now upload PDFs for detailed AI analysis that draws on web sources and includes links for deeper exploration.
  • The new Canvas feature offers a dynamic side panel that retains project context across sessions, letting users build and refine study schedules, itineraries and other plans.
  • Search Live video integration with Google Lens enables mobile users to converse with AI Mode in real time based on live camera feeds for object recognition and contextual answers.
  • Chrome’s address bar gains an “Ask Google about this page” option to summon AI Overviews on any webpage or file viewed, with follow-up queries routed through AI Mode.
  • These updates are currently limited to participants in Google’s AI Mode Labs experiment in the United States and India, with additional file-type support and broader rollout planned.
